Hiatus, of sorts

Blogging is likely to be light, in days to come.

For one thing, I've sort of, finally, landed a job. (Contingent on a "background check," which, alas, includes a credit check, and my skills at handling money can most charitably described as "abysmal." So it's entirely likely they'll diss me, despite being otherwise qualified ... but we'll see.)

The other thing is blogger burnout, which I don't want to succumb to. It's quite hard, even when creatively motivated with all the other variables, i.e., plenty of time, etc., to post daily.

So, to the very good friends I've made, I'll not disappear; but neither will I reliably post a lot of bloggy goodness for a while. I will remain engaged. Just not as interesting, perhaps ... ;)

So how goes the background check? I hope they see past that one thing to your qualifying qualities!

Well, Walker, I'm officially in! Evidently my poor bill-paying skills didn't daunt them, and I'm glad -- I start Monday.

Thanks for asking! :o)

Thanks so much, friends! :o)

Having just finished my first day, I can honestly tell you, I've landed on my feet, and no mistake -- this job is going to be FUN, challenging, will pay well, and who'd 'a thunk!

I'll probably post thoughts -- on what having been a journalist was like for lo so many years -- it's a calling, really, just like a teacher, cop or priest -- versus stepping outside the "calling," and enjoying simple things. I know I'm not making much sense, so perhaps I'll be able to articulate it better, later -- or perhaps not.

Suffice it to say, a new and wonderful chapter has begun, and I thank you who are sharing it with me for allowing me to express :o)

P.S. One of the amazing things is, I'm actually going to be finally earning more than just above minimum wage!

Alas ... journalists are professionals, but such is the dire state of the craft, and the economy, and the evolution of the Internet, that even the "top" papers don't pay much more than about 10 bucks an hour.

But I put up with it, because I loved my craft -- well, now I see it's possible to love doing other things, and get paid better -- whee!

//shameless pandering to appreciative friends off//

Thanks so much BCF!!! :o)

I've got to say, I really am enjoying this job -- for one thing, they actually CARE about whether the employees are HAPPY -- they actually BELIEVE that happy employees equal happy customers -- still getting used to it!

:o)

I'm so glad to hear the good news, Mary! Best of luck to you at your new job!!!

Every now and then, I feel the same, I leave the internet behind and step out of the box.

You go, Girl, with my best wishes.
